<description>Pretty sure that Dixons are part of Countrywide.

Countrywide do not have a monopoly on NBS valuations - they are not the only survey company on the panel. When I worked for them they did 25% of the NBS surveys due to a long standing arrangement going back to when Nationwide sold their surveying arm in 1994.

<description>My wife and i are purchising a property in the Walsall area using Countrywide property lawyers (via Dixons who are conducting the sale on our property). We noted online that we can arrange for an indenpendnant survey, however we have been advised that our proposed lender (Nationwide) would only accept Countywide Property surveys. In order to approve a mortgage we were told that we could appoint independent surveyors for the homebuyer survey but we would still need to instruct countrywide to conduct a basic survey for valuation purposes, therefore paying twice for two surveys. We are unhappy with this course as it would mean paying twice for a survey for valuation/mortgage purposes, as we are aware the homebuyer report does include valuation for proposed lenders.
This does not seem to be fair to vendors. Is there anything we can do in order to avoid this additional cost?
